I remember a long time ago that I wanted to write a romantic-comedy. Got a few drafts done, and then put it aside. Couldn’t quite nail down the language and the cadence that such a concept really deserves.
But years on, I think I can.
So this is intended as my love letter to the rom-com genre, an aspect of writing and production that has been signposted, in regards to its genre format, as an anarchaic and rather dull piece of textual and subtextual fluff. In recent years we’ve seen either garishly funny (yet wholly adult) flicks such as Knocked Up, and puerile gutter trash (the slew of ‘gross-out’ comedies). They both have their values in some ways, but in others they seem to contain elements that don’t quite enable people to settle into a whimsical fate.
Can I do that?
No idea. But I can try.
